Part 2

But in the blink of an eye, everything changed!

Instead of lunging forward with bared teeth, the terrifying enforcer froze entirely on the branch.

The massive tracker wasn’t looking at Barnaby with anger, but with an expression of sheer, overwhelming shock.

Barnaby stared back, his mouth still completely stuffed with the sweet, sticky orange pulp of the fruit.

The enforcer looked at the white fur, then at the blue eyes, and finally down at the half-eaten papaya.

Slowly, the large hunter reached behind his back and pulled out a small, faded piece of old leather.

He unrolled it with trembling fingers, revealing a primitive drawing made with dark berry juice.

The drawing depicted a completely white ape, surrounded by a ring of protective golden stars.

Barnaby blinked in utter confusion, his nervous panic slowly giving way to absolute bewilderment.

The enforcer suddenly dropped his aggressive posture, bowing his massive head in deep reverence.

A soft, respectful whimper escaped the throat of the beast that had terrorized the valley for years.

Barnaby slowly lowered his hand from his mouth, wondering if the papaya had somehow made him hallucinate.

The hunter pointed a thick, heavily calloused finger at the white fur on Barnaby’s shaking shoulder.

According to an ancient jungle prophecy, a white phantom would appear during the great season of drought.

This phantom would hold the golden fruit of life and bring an end to the tyrannical rule of the old kings.

Barnaby wasn’t a criminal thief in their eyes; he was the long-awaited savior of the entire forest.

The enforcer reached out, not to grab Barnaby, but to gently touch the edge of his pale, fuzzy foot.

The realization hit Barnaby like a falling log, turning his terror into a bizarre sense of ultimate power.

He looked down at the half-eaten papaya in his right hand, which now looked like a legendary artifact.

He looked at the orange fruit in his lower hand, realizing it looked exactly like the golden stars in the drawing.

He carefully swallowed the massive bite of food, trying to look as majestic and spiritual as possible.

He puffed out his chest, letting his long, white hair blow slightly in the gentle ridge breeze.

The enforcer looked up, his eyes filled with hope as he waited for a sign from the chosen one.

Barnaby slowly broke the remaining piece of the papaya in half, holding it out toward his former hunter.
