part 2

But in the blink of an eye, everything changed!

Instead of bringing his massive fist down in anger, Inspector Mojo suddenly burst into a booming, belly-shaking laugh. 😂

The sound was so loud that a flock of colorful parrots erupted from the nearby fig trees in a panic.

Barnaby cautiously opened one eye, utterly confused by the unexpected turn of events.

Mojo sank to his knees in the tall grass, his strict demeanor completely melting away.

“The kid has got serious guts!” Mojo roared, wiping a tear of laughter from his eye.

“Most grown chimps run away screaming when I walk into a clearing.”

Barnaby slowly lowered Pip down to his chest, letting out a massive sigh of pure relief.

Pip, completely unfazed, began to chew happily on a loose blade of grass.

“You’re not going to banish us to the thorn bushes?” Barnaby asked, his voice still trembling.

Mojo waved his giant hand dismissively, still chuckling quietly to himself.

“Banish you? For showing true spirit? Absolutely not,” the Inspector said, shaking his head.

“In fact, I haven’t seen an aerial balance that perfect since my own youth.”

Barnaby blinked in surprise as Mojo looked longingly up at the high forest canopy.

It turned out that before he became the terrifying chief of police, Mojo was a legendary acrobat himself.

He had won the Great Canopy Games three times in a row back in his prime.

“Your form is good, Barnaby, but your arm stability is completely lacking,” Mojo observed critically.

“If you hold him like that tomorrow, the judges will laugh you out of the arena.”

The old inspector lay down on his back right next to Barnaby in the soft green clover.

He showed Barnaby how to lock his elbow and use his core muscles to support the weight.

For the next two hours, the feared police chief became a gentle, highly enthusiastic coach.

Pip absolutely loved the extra attention, giggling as he was lifted up toward the sky over and over.

He practiced his twists, his turns, and his signature “flying squirrel” pose.

By the time the sun reached its highest point, Barnaby’s arms didn’t hurt at all thanks to Mojo’s technique.

“You might actually have a shot at beating the baboon champion tomorrow,” Mojo said, standing up and brushing off his fur.

Barnaby smiled genuinely this time, feeling a sudden surge of deep gratitude for the old lawman.

He didn’t mention the debt, but he knew this training had just saved his family’s future.

The next morning, the grand arena at the center of the jungle was packed to the brim with cheering animals. 🐒

The baboon syndicate sat in the front row, looking smug and holding giant signs for their own star athlete.
