Unmasking Garrick Vance

Part Two of the Story… 👇

Domestic Abuse Investigation

I did not sleep that night, nor did I allow myself the luxury of letting emotion dictate my next move. In my years with the Bureau, I had watched men like Garrick Vance operate time and again. They were textbook narcissists, driven by an inflated sense of dominance and an overwhelming need for control. When that control was challenged, they didn’t retreat; they escalated. Garrick believed he was the smartest man in every room he entered, and that supreme arrogance was precisely what I intended to use to dismantle him.

By dawn, I had compiled a comprehensive master file. It contained timestamped screenshots of every text message, audio files of his recorded phone calls, copies of my mother’s confidential medical evaluations, and bank statements detailing his sudden, illegal withdrawal of funds. I emailed the encrypted dossier directly to Ethan Reyes, adding a precise assessment of Garrick’s behavioral patterns and threat level.

Ethan called me back less than twenty minutes later. His voice was grim, stripped of all casual warmth. He had already reviewed the file and run Garrick’s credentials through federal databases. What we found elevated the situation far beyond a domestic dispute. Garrick was not merely a local bully with an anger management issue. He had quietly established a network of shell companies used to launder money, and he possessed several unregistered firearms, including semi-automatic rifles that breached federal statutes due to altered serial numbers.

Ethan confirmed that the federal warrant for Garrick’s arrest was actively being processed, but bureaucracy takes time. We needed to ensure my mother was entirely out of reach while the gears of justice turned. I had moved Clara to a secure, unlisted location—a quiet safe house monitored around the clock by trusted former colleagues. She was physically safe, but the psychological toll was immense. She spent those first forty-eight hours jumping at every distant siren and flinching whenever a phone chimed.

On the third morning following the divorce filing, the escalation I anticipated finally arrived.

My home sits at the end of a quiet suburban cul-de-sac, surrounded by dense oak trees and spacious yards. It was designed to offer privacy, but on this particular morning, it served as a tactical containment zone. Ethan and a specialized team of four federal agents had arrived at my residence at 05:00 hours. Their unmarked SUVs were tucked out of sight behind my detached garage, and the agents were positioned strategically inside my entry hall, quiet, armed, and ready.

At precisely 08:15 AM, a heavy black pickup truck pulled aggressively into my driveway, its tires skidding slightly on the gravel. I stood in my living room, watching through the slatted blinds. Garrick stepped out of the vehicle. He wasn’t wearing his customary tailored suit or the polite, civic-minded smile he presented to the community. His clothes were rumpled, his eyes were bloodshot, and his jaw was set in a tight, furious line.

He marched up the concrete walkway with heavy, deliberate steps. In his right hand, kept low against his thigh, was a semi-automatic handgun.

He didn’t knock politely. He slammed his left fist against the heavy oak front door, the force rattling the metal frame.
