Part Two of the Story… 👇
Family Justice
The red dot on the tracking software blinked steadily against the digital map, illuminating the dark corners of my office. It didn’t point to a boarding school in another state, nor did it point to the modest suburban home Jason’s attorneys had listed on every fraudulent custody update they had filed over the last four years. It pointed directly to the high-security gated community in the hills just twenty minutes north of the cemetery where my parents were buried. It was the ancestral estate of Victoria Vance, the blonde woman from the SUV.
During our initial court skirmishes, Jason had stood before a judge and sworn under oath that Lily had never set foot on that property, claiming it was too overwhelming for a young child. He had used that lie to establish a residency profile for Lily in a completely different jurisdiction, keeping her hidden behind a wall of legal technicalities and distant post office boxes.
My hands stayed perfectly still as I clicked the mouse to copy the exact coordinates. The panic that used to hollow out my chest during those first bitter months in the tiny rented room didn’t come. Instead, a cold, mathematical precision took its place. I picked up my office phone and dialed the direct line for Marcus Thorne, the senior legal counsel I had retained eighteen months ago.
“Marcus,” I said, my voice cutting through the quiet room. “The line just active-traced. She’s at the Vance estate in the hills. She told me they are planning to move her before I can find her.”
Marcus didn’t ask foolish questions. He didn’t ask if I was sure. “I am contacting the emergency duty judge and the county sheriff’s department right now,” he replied, his tone sharp and professional. “We already have the signed emergency writ of habeas corpus sitting in our active file based on the fraudulent asset and residency disclosures we uncovered last month. Meet me at the main security gate in fifteen minutes. Do not enter the property alone, Emily….”
