Method
 

Cake Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix in butter, milk, vanilla, and cotton candy extract until smooth. Add eggs one at a time.
  3. Divide batter into pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool cakes for 10 minutes in pans, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
Buttercream
  1. Beat softened butter until fluffy. Gradually add powdered sugar, then mix in heavy cream and cotton candy extract until combined. Tint half of the frosting pink and the other half blue.
Assembly
  1. Layer cooled cakes with alternating pink and blue frosting. Frost the outer layer and decorate with cotton candy and optional sprinkles.
