Billionaire Protection

The air outside the wrought-iron gates of the Hale estate was thick with tension. Maria pressed her face against the glass of the nursery window upstairs, her hands trembling so violently she could barely hold the curtain aside. Below, the three men stood like vultures, their dark suits contrasting sharply with the pristine, sunlit gravel of the driveway. One of them had his hand buried deep inside his jacket, a menacing gesture that made Maria’s stomach drop.

But Adrian Hale didn’t flinch. He stood perfectly still, his hands casually tucked into his trouser pockets, looking at the three intruders as if they were nothing more than an inconvenient spot of rain on an otherwise perfect morning.

Adrian leaned forward slightly, his lips moving as he spoke a single, quiet sentence to the leader of the men.

Distance made it impossible for Maria to hear the exact words, but the effect was instantaneous. The man who had been reaching inside his jacket froze entirely. His hand stopped moving. The sneer on his face dissolved into a look of absolute, unadulterated terror. The two men standing behind him looked at each other, their confident postures evaporating in a fraction of a second. They stepped back, their faces draining of color until they looked like ghosts standing in the morning sun.

Without a single word in response, the leader slowly withdrew his hand from his jacket—empty. He bowed his head slightly, a gesture of complete submission, and gestured frantically to his companions. The three men turned on their heels, practically running back to their dark SUV. Within seconds, the tires screeched against the pavement as they sped away from the gates, leaving behind nothing but a cloud of dust and an echoing silence.

Inside the mansion, the staff remained frozen. The butler, who had been preparing to call the police, slowly lowered the house phone. The head chef stood with a dish towel clenched in his fist, staring out the kitchen window in disbelief. No threats had been exchanged. No physical altercation had taken place. Yet, three dangerous men who had hunted Maria across states had been broken by a single sentence from the billionaire.

Upstairs, Maria collapsed against the wall, sliding down to the carpet as a sob of pure relief escaped her throat. Alina, sitting on the rug nearby, blinked her large, bright eyes and crawled over to her mother, pulling at Maria’s apron as if to comfort her.

A few minutes later, heavy, deliberate footsteps echoed down the hallway. The door to the nursery opened, and Adrian walked in. He looked completely unbothered, his tie perfectly straight, his demeanor as calm as if he had just returned from a routine business meeting.

Maria looked up at him, tears still wet on her cheeks. “What did you say to them?” she whispered, her voice cracking. “How did you make them leave like that?”

Adrian walked over, bypassing the plush armchairs, and knelt right there on the floor next to Maria and the baby. The moment he sat down, Alina immediately abandoned her mother’s apron and scrambled into his lap, burying her small face against his crisp white shirt. Adrian’s hand instinctively came up to cup the back of the baby’s head, his long fingers gently smoothing down her soft hair.

“I told them the truth,” Adrian said, his voice low and steady. “I told them that the man who sent them—the man who has been funding their little hunt—no longer has any money to pay them.”
